HPV Symptoms You Need to Know About
Most of the estimated 26% of Americans between the ages of 15 and 60, who have a form of the human papilloma virus, or HPV, are unaware that they have it. This is due to a few different factors. The majority of the over 200 strains of this virus cause no forms of symptoms in the human body. Only a fraction of those who contact some strain of HPV ever have noticeable signs of it. Most of those who do have signs of the virus have one of the 30 to 40 strains which are spread through the form of sexual contact. Below is some information about the symptoms which can form in males in females who have been infected with some strains of HPV.
Signs in Males and Females
A symptom of some strains of HPV, which can form in males and females, is common warts or body warts. The types of warts which appear on the skin of an infected individual vary based on the particular strain that they have been infected with. The warts which form are usually non-cancerous. These warts are formed because of the virus causing a rapid formation of cells on the skin. The skin warts formed by HPV can form on the hands and feet of the infected person. There are some rare cases in which the virus can develop skin warts on other places on the body.
Planters Warts
It is possible for some people who form warts from HPV to develop painful planter’s warts. These are root warts which develop on the bottoms of the feet on the soles. These warts can make it difficult for people to walk. Often these warts require surgical removal. Some of those who have these warts can have them treated with medications.
Subungual and Periungual Warts
There are some form of warts which in some of those infected with HPV which are very difficult to treat. These are the warts which are known as subungual and periungual warts. These warts tend to form in places such as under the fingernails or cuticles. They can also form in other places on the body which cause them to be hard to treat. Some of them require surgical removal, while other are treated medicinally.
Flat Warts
Flat warts are another form of wart which can be caused by HPV. These warts usually form on the face and arms. These warts are much like the common and planters warts in the fact that generally do not become cancerous. Most of these warts will clear on their own. There are some treatments for these warts which can be prescribed by a physician to assist in getting rid of them. Only in extreme cases is surgery considered to remove these forms of warts.
Genital and Anal Warts
HPV warts which form on the genitals and the anus are more serious than other forms of HPV warts. These warts are known to form in an estimated 90% of those who develop cancer from HPV. These warts are one of the most noticeable symptoms of the presence of HPV. These warts are the one which can cause the virus to be spread from one person to another. The warts cause the transmission from one person to another through sexual contact.
Respiratory Warts
In extremely rare cases HPV can case the development of warts in the respiratory tract of an infected individual. In these cases the warts can interfere with a person’s ability to breathe. Surgical procedures are needed to remove these warts in most cases of those who develop them. This one of the rarest forms of HPV warts.
